I noticed something as I was reading 1 Timothy 2:1-4 that connects to the freedom we have in this country.

I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all goodness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

The first thing that bothers me here is that I don’t pray for our leaders the way I should. In fact I don’t pray for them much at all – that needs to change!

The second thing I notice is that there seems to be a link between living peaceful and quiet lives in goodness and holiness, and salvation of people. The way I see this (and your thoughts are welcome) is that our prayer for those in authority can result in freedom, which, in turn, should result in the gospel moving throughout the nation.

It bothers me that as I tend to use my freedom for self-centered purposes instead of for God’s.

I need to pray for our leaders and stop using God’s gift (freedom) for selfish purposes.
