About CBC
Community Bible Church is a somewhat casual group that is focused on living lives of faith every day. We want to live out what Jesus had in mind when he said, “Follow me”. We’re working hard to rework how we tend to think about church. Instead of church being what we do on Sunday mornings or a place where we go, we really want it to be the people. People caring for each other, people caring for Winona, people finding God together in a way we cannot experience as individuals.
If you are new to the Winona area, or are unsure of how Jesus connects to the day-to-day issues of life, we would love for you to visit us. I promise that you will meet friendly people here and experience church in a whole new way.”
Journey – In some ways we are all on a different journey. We each have different life-experiences, personalities, talents, etc. that connect us to where we are going. Your journey is very important because it is in God’s design. In one sense those who would follow Jesus are all on the same journey – God is moving us toward harmony with his vision. This movement is amazing and will “stretch” us. As we embrace Jesus as our “center” he calls and compels us to loosen our grip on those things that compete for our loyalty. Community Bible Church would like to help you with your journey – it’s one of the reasons we exist.
Authenticity – When Christians mask their flaws, when they try to show that they’re perfect people, damage follows. This is actually pride (a great sin) showing itself. When we draw attention to our “perfection” we are actually minimizing the need for the perfection of Jesus. The Apostle Paul, for example, was very willing to talk about the magnitude of his imperfection (Romans 7:15-25; 2 Corinthians 12:9-10). He did this so that others would find hope in Jesus. At Community Bible Church we’re trying to cultivate authenticity in our relationships. We can best help each other and serve Winona when we are real people.
Transformation – Those who claim Jesus as their hope in life and death should long for continual transformation.
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will. – Romans 12:2
God, working through the truth of Scripture, moves thinking and action toward that of Jesus, our example. When our thinking is aligned with Scripture we will be able to understand and find joy in God’s will. At Community Bible Church we hold the Bible as God’s Word to this world and expect him to move us toward his vision – fuller love of God and fuller love of those around us.
